Support

The following is an excerpt from the section presented on the promotion of doctoral student employment and improved treatment for adopted researchers.

In this project, please actively employ doctoral students as RAs, etc., who are necessary for the execution of research, and set a unit price appropriate to the nature and content of the work, and pay them according to the hours they are engaged in the work under appropriate work management. When applying for this project, please also consider the amount of salary to be paid to the doctoral students mentioned above in your financial plan.

The "Sixth Science, Technology and Innovation Basic PlanThe amount equivalent to living expenses received by doctoral students is at least 1.8 million yen per year. The program is designed to provide a research incentive for outstanding doctoral students to devote themselves to research without financial concerns. In addition, we provide excellent doctoral students with research grants comparable to a special researcher (DC) so that they can devote themselves to their research without feeling financial worries.Significantly expand the number of recipients to about 2.4 million yen per year, etc.The company is committed to

The "Guidelines for the Employment and Training of Postdoctoral Fellows" states that "the average salary of specially-appointed assistant professors, etc., employed with competitive research funds, etc., should be taken into consideration when employing postdoctoral students to carry out research projects,Standard hourly rate of pay is around 2,000 to 500 yen per hour.. shall be considered to be." This indicates that

The amount and period of the grant are to be determined by the research institution. The above does not limit the amount to be paid above or below the above level.

When employing students as RAs, etc., please consider not to work excessive hours and to balance the hours with the doctoral students' own research and study hours.

In addition, this project aims to foster emergent researchers as research leaders, to further promote emergent research through the participation of outstanding doctoral students, and to encourage researchers and universities to change their mindsets,Additional support (up to an amount equivalent to living expenses) will be provided for employment as an RAIn addition to the above, we also provide additional support. In providing additional support, we will make a comprehensive check to see if the founder can actively engage in fostering the next generation of human resources who will be responsible for the future of Japan as the head of the laboratory.

The NIMS Graduate School Program is a graduate school program in which NIMS researchers are closely ”involved” in education and administration as faculty members in their own majors, with a greater emphasis on the development of students.

Now we have an agreement in place.Six universities in JapanThe NIMS Graduate School of Medicine has established a program in the Graduate School of Medicine, NIMS.

  • University of Tsukuba
  • Hokkaido University
  • Kyushu University
  • Waseda University
  • Osaka University
  • Yokohama National University

Within this program, the Junior Researcher Program is a system under which outstanding affiliated graduate students are paid for their contributions to NIMS' research work.

In principle, students' academic work is not covered by the stipend, but in general, there is a consistency between research projects for degree completion and research work at NIMS, so if students devote themselves to research for degree completion, they will meet the conditions of the stipend.

*Note: About the take-home pay of the support money

I will make a special note at the end as a precaution because it is very important.

The amount of support for each support program and the amount of money actually received by the student (take-home pay) areVaries.

That is, from the amount paidhave taxes deductedFrom.

For example, let us take the example of a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship.

The research grants are200,000 yen per monthIt is.

Since the research incentive is employment income, the following taxes and insurance premiums will need to be paid

  1. income tax
  2. Inhabitant tax (2nd year and thereafter)
  3. national pension contribution
  4. national health insurance premium

After deducting the above, roughly 150,000 to 160,000 is often the monthly take-home pay.

200,000 yen/month for research grant

Take-home pay.150,000-160,000 yen per month

Akanon

I am sorry, but I have no experience as a DC, so I cannot provide actual amounts or other information. If you do a keyword search for "special researcher" or "take-home pay," you will find blogs and other sites that have actual amounts from people with experience.

Specific examples of income tax

The following is an example of the amount of income tax levied on research incentive expenses.

(e.g.) If the applicant has zero dependents and does not apply for the "Research Expenses" (see below):
4760 yen per month will be deducted as income tax and paid

The table below is difficult to see, so please click on it to enlarge it.

Other businesses are subject to various taxes as well

Please check carefully, as there are significant changes from when you were a dependent of your parents or other family members.

Please visualize the money you will have on hand in this specific way and make an outlook on your life as a doctoral student!

Secrets of Research Proposals that Pass the Screening Process

Now, in order to apply for such fellowships and scholarships, you must submit a research proposal.

Rather, by the quality of the research proposal,be split on whether to accept or decline an offerIt is no exaggeration to say.

But I have no idea what to write... or how to write it.

In the following article, the author, who was actually selected for a difficult scholarship, will share his know-how and tips by introducing his research proposal.

We are now giving out free copies to students, as more than 50 copies have already been purchased.

Making a good doctoral education

My experience during my doctoral years has been invaluable.

For me, too, it was the hardest, most painful, accomplished, and fulfilling time of my life.

In the recent globalization, the title of PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) will be very useful.
